Charles Hodge is a well-known and important theologian and a defender of Calvinism. He taught at Princeton Theological Seminary for fifty years, and 3,000 ministers of the Gospel passed under his instruction. He was accorded the rare privilege, during a long life, of achieving distinction as a teacher, exegete, preacher, controversialist, ecclesiastic, and systematic theologian. He had a significant impact on the intellectual climate of the 19th century. His Systematic Theology is his greatest work. Composed of three separate volumes, it addresses some of the most important theological questions of both that time and our current time. The first volume contains an introduction and then addresses Theology Proper--the study of God. The second volume examines Anthropology--the study of human beings--and Soteriology--the study of salvation. The third and final volume discusses Eschatology--the study of end times. Hodge's Systematic Theology is clearly a work of Reformed thought but is profitable for study even outside the Reformed community. Further, this unabridged version of his work retains the mastery of Hodge's work. Since the first publication of these volumes, countless theologians and pastors have found them helpful.

8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Charles Hodges' Systematic Theology By New to Colorado Hodges' Systematic Theology is a masterpiece. His most frustrating characteristic is making an important point by quoting Latin. But I don't have any Latin and used it in seminary. I continue to use it today.Now as to Kindle editions. Don't buy this one. For a systematic theology to be helpful, it has to have a Linked Table of Contents. The three separate $0.99 editions (Volumes 1, 2, and 3) do not. For $1.99 you can get "Systematic Theology (With Active Table of Contents) [Kindle Edition]" which is a working electronic edition in one combined volume.

By ReformedGirls Charles Hodge's Systematic Theology is a MUST have book, so my review is only evaluating the kindle version of this book.There are 4 Kindle versions of this book.#4/4 This version $0.99 (being evaluated in this review) has no linked Table of Contents PLUS has weird symbols and many typos because it is a scanned copy - the same as the free public domain version. It has a black and white picture of Charles Hodge on the cover but no title and no name. No writing at all on the cover. (This is the book being evaluated in this review)The other Kindle versions:#1/4 is the best version with a complete linked Table of Contents is the one with a COLOR picture of Charles Hodge with a black bar across the bottom of the book with the words "SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY" in CAPS and below it in a larger font "CHARLES HODGE" in CAPS. This best version is $1.99.#2/4 also has a linkable Table of Contents BUT it comes in 2 different kindle volumes at $1.00 each so you must buy 2 Kindle books for the same content as #1/4. This is the version titled "Systematic Theology Vol 1 (Theology) (with fully functional TOC) (Ilustrated) [Kindle Edition]" with a black and white picture of Charles Hodge with "Systematic Theology Vol 1 (Theology) Charles Hodge" written across his picture in big white letters.#3/4 has no linked Table of Contents. This is the $6.99 version with the black cover with a red box that reads "Systematic Theology" in white letters and the name Charles Hodge at the bottom of the cover.

There is no TOC, and the only chapters that have a link are chapters 3,4,& 5. I can't understand why just those three chapters, but who knows. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!
