I grew up reading "American Heritage," one of the best magazines on American history that I can ever imagine. I'm thrilled that they're doing a "best of..." series, and it was nice to revisit some of the outstanding coverage Abraham Lincoln was given during the years the magazine published. While I'm sure it would be a good introduction for anyone looking to get a little more acquainted with the 16th president, for me it was a trip to the past in more ways than one. These are all excellent articles by first-rate historians that have been melded into a book worthy of anyone's time and attention.

Having multiple contributing writers (i.e. each chapter a self contained work by an author) added great variety, style, and insights, each displaying their expertise in a subject area regarding Lincoln. I highly recommend it!

By Royce J Stilson Very enlightening essays on various stages of life for this inspired president. The one essay, which detailed the lining up of delegates at the Chicago Republican convention was fascinating and illuminating. God moves in mysterious ways, his wonders to perform. He performed a great miracle with Lincoln- making a great president out of a backwoods, common man. The stone that was rejected by the builders, became the cornerstone of American equality for all peoples, in addition to preserving the nation and all of its individual states.
