Most of them fit in a category somewhere between very Spartan, and very boring.This book sets a new standard. It tell you a little of history of the subject, and breaks it down by transportation, culinary adventures, and I particularly the part of understanding London - Now and then.I think this travel guide should not be called a guide, because it is much more than that. It gives you reasons to go and see certain sights, and when not to go.You can tell the author really feels for London, and he starts off by wishing the traveler `an amazing time in London`. I don’t recall seeing such genuineness in any guide before. I liked the way he is beside you in considering such things as where to eat, and why go `there`.Being a history buff, I appreciate the way he ties history in the descriptions of just about everything, and actually goes into some depth as a basis for going.This guy knows his stuff, and makes you want to put London at the top of your bucket list.It is a very, very good introduction to London. When I go, this will certainly be with me.

By Lilikins This book covers areas that many don't ie tipping, prices at various attractions, emergency numbers, helplines, actual prices a budget traveller may have to pay, average exchange rate, accents and links to everything from locations to monuments to booking lines. Very good and useful info on transport - which can be very confusing to a first time visitor.Very hands on useful info; good amount of info covered from night life to food markets to nature parks to Palaces. Most museums in London are FREE amazingly. London winters are mild compared to North America and we rarely get snow.The author does feature some of the lesser known about London attractions which is good - Wimbledon and Wembley missed out as did Madame Tussourds. LOL Loved the way the author found the pub names ie Dog and Duck so bizarre - the UK is quirky that is for sure.The author should perhaps make sure place names are tied to the pictures as most pictures have the name above them, meaning you do not see the correct name in the kindle version. Pics should be better labelled. Nice pictures though.

You get to learn a bit of history, culture, class, accents (of certain areas in London), foods and various accommodations. London is not one cosmopolitan city. It’s divided into four different parts (east, west, north and south), each region or borough with unique and fascinating characteristics—by what you find there and how people live and interact with each other or the visitors. The writer describes each local (costs, accommodations, transportation, facilities, attraction cites, etc.) concisely and vividly. The reader will enjoy not only reading about all these places and things but probably will desire to travel there and visit all those places one day. From the range of prices for different services and accommodations, London sounds like a place where both the well-heeled and frugal travelers can be accommodated and have equally good time . . . Highly recommend this book for anyone who plans to visit the historical English capital city.
