About the Author Jønathan Lyons lives and writes in Central Pennsylvania. He teaches writing and literature at Bucknell University. His writing has appeared in the Journal of Experimental Fiction, Hotel Amerika, Exquisite Corpse, and elsewhere. He received an MFA from California College of the Arts in 2005. He is the author of MINNOWS: A SHATTERED NOVEL (JEF Books, 2013), which involved cutting up and rearranging blocks and columns of text, hanging those on walls throughout the basement, and then striving to bring this exploded narrative into a coherent whole.

Kaalberg-Freers This book was one of my first ventures into reading experimental fiction, and I have to say that the structure of the novel seemed perfectly suited to the story. I felt like it mirrored the experience of going through, remembering and then finally acknowledging the details of a difficult situation. The story became more and more heartbreaking as additional layers of details were revealed.

It has a Momento-ish quality (if you've ever seen the movie), where memory has a dreamlike fluidity, and where in the making of memories, the omission and inclusion of events is actually secondary to the emotional landscape being constructed. The structure of the prose is poetic, as a matter of fact the whole book reads like a prose poem. It is a challenging read.

The future By Dominic Ward Jønathan Lyons, although a relative newcomer to the experimental writing scene, is nothing less than a serious promise of a great career. Minnows is structurally experimental. Many books in which this has been attempted present as little more than a cheap gimmick. Not so with Minnows. It's a delicate story told with a unique vision and it succeeds gloriously. Lyons is a good writer. So much so that Dirt Heart Pharmacy Press picked up his next book, a collection of short stories, without even a second of thought. Here is the future.
