An irreverent homage to the '95 travel classic Notes from a Small Island, wherein Ben Aitken retraces Bill Bryson’s journey as precisely as possible – same hotels, same plates of food, same amount of time in the bath – before finishing outside his house on Christmas Eve. "It would be wrong to view this book as just a highly accomplished homage to a personal hero. Aitken's politics, as much as his humour, are firmly in the spotlight, and Dear Bill Bryson achieves more than its title (possibly even its author) intended." Manchester Review

By Amazon Customer As a Bryson fan, I thought this book was just fantastic. It's interesting to read the observations of England from a natives perspective, compared to Bryson's American perspective. Ben Aitken is observant and offers a hilarious but also thought provoking view of his home country. His book stands on its own!
3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A writer more engaged with his subject than Bryson By Anon Read it in the bath with my dog. Clean prose, wryly humorous, socially perceptive--not bad throughout. In many places Aitken is a more engaged, more inquisitive, and less contemptuous narrator than Bryson. Lake District chapter stands out.

As witty as Bill's original, often wittier. Thoughtful social commentary as pertinent as Bill's original - the two books walk hand in hand up a steep hill and discuss the view at the top in a way that will make your face make interesting shapes of enjoyment.
