The author does a pretty good job of giving a thumbnail sketch of the area, but I think the price is too high for the length and quality of the book. It's more of a booklet really. You can pretty much get through it in an evening if you want to. There are indeed a lot of photos, but they are small and of really low quality. I found it very frustrating that NONE of the pictures had any kind of descriptive text underneath that told you what you were looking at (you can however infer what SOME of the photos are by reading the text on the adjacent pages.) Most of the information in the book seemed pretty accurate, but I did notice a couple of errors (for example, Jacaranda Blvd runs predominantly north-south off of 75, not east-west as stated.) Also, it would have been nice if the booklet had more information on area critters, especially hazardous ones like poisonous snakes, spiders, fire ants, coyotes, etc. Even though I basically liked this booklet, I was pretty harsh in my rating because I don't think you get a lot of value given the hefty price tag. A fair price for this quality of publication should probably be more in the $7-$8 range.

I'll be making a short trip to investigate areas and was hoping to get a good feel for the residential areas to save me some time when I get there. There wasn't much info on the neighborhoods, so this book was a waste of money for me. It's pretty expensive for a small paperback book.

By Suzanne Terrific overview of Sarasota with great info about the communities, arts, real estate, etc (really it includes EVERYTHING you'd want to know before moving here!) I'll be using this great resource for friends and family who've asked about moving here. Plus, it provides helpful links to so many venues: shopping, entertainment, farmer's markets, etc. This is super as an ongoing resource for all things Sarasota too! Thanks for writing this book.
