By A G R Berry From his very first book, to his latest, Phil Nordyke has never failed to deliver in terms of accurate, well researched, well written and detailed histories of the 82nd Airborne Division and it's sub-units. This book continues that trend, and is a must for anyone with an interest in this fine Division. It's obvious from the outset that the level of research involved is massive, some of which must have come at Nordykes personal expense. This book seamlessly ties pictures, with text, and gives readers a multi-dimensional insight into not only the combat history of the Division but also it's time during activation, training, and in camp. Previously unpublished photographs of the 82nd are rare, but this book contains many, and the volumes to follow look set also to contain many more that are unseen. To date, this book stands are the most comprehensive photographic history of the Division in combat during the earlier, lesser known campaigns where the men cut their teeth in the world of warfare and firmly established themselves as amongst the worlds very best combatants. Nordyke ties in photographs of buildings, locations, men, equipment, aircraft, terrain, and those notable characters of the Division, to first hand accounts of their experience in and out of the line of fire. He also provides a stark reminder of the cost of war to the Division and to the Allies, leaving readers in no doubt as to the importance of the 82nd Airborne Division in the fight to liberate Europe from Nazi tyranny.A fan of U.S Airborne history?.....Your book shelf is incomplete without this title and the volumes set to follow. Highly recommended.Adam Berry82nd Airborne Division historian and author of "And suddenly they were gone".

He called me 3 times to tell me what a wonderful book this was By Herbert Lahout I sent this book to the only 82nd/505 PIR paratrooper who made all 4 jumps that is still alive (that I know of). I have sent him many books on D-Day. He is 93 years old and very much "with it". He called me 3 times to tell me what a wonderful book this was! So I will let his review speak for the books quality.

By former paratrooper An excellent compilation of photos with running narrative by an author who wells knows the history of the 82nd Division. A great introduction to the Division for folks who don't know the history of the division and interesting new photos and accompanied narrative for readers familiar with the exploits of the 82nd.
